Room1
Term 2:
On Monday 19 April, the first day of the term, we held a powhiri to welcome our new Principal, Mr Roy Lilley. What a wonderful way to start the term!
The students in the kapahaka group were a credit to themselves, their families and to their school. I am looking forward to a great term.
Our main studies for the term will be the preparation and delivery of a speech for the APPA Annual Speech Competition. The final for this will be on June 14 for the Year 7 finalists and June 14 for the Year 8.
You are very welcome to attend these assemblies. In addition to this the preparation and presentation of a Science Box will be a major emphasis. The pupils will work on a scientific investigation, make a hypothesis, design and carry out experiments to come to a conclusion either proving or disproving their hypothesis.
How can you help?
A huge thank you to those parents who have routinely read with and discussed the text with their children. This helps enormously as does regularly checking tables, basic facts and spelling. Please continue to show an interest and encourage the children to do their very best.
Room 1 pupils produced some very pleasing Circles of Care as part of the WISH Programme last term. This term we will learn more about Courtesy, Commitment and Responsibility.Hopefully you are seeing the children displaying these virtues at home. If not please remind them that they learn about these things in order to apply them at home, at school and in the community – in fact wherever they are and in whatever they do.
As of Monday May 3 Mrs Clubb will be teaching the Room 1 pupils 4 days a week and I will be teaching for one day – a Wednesday. This is ideal as the continuity will be maintained for the students. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting some of you last term and at the Parent – Teacher Meetings on Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 April.
I look forward to meeting others and continuing my association with those I have already met during the course of this term. Thanks for your interest and support.
