Welcome to our web page for term two
The students will begin the term by looking back over their books which have been extensively marked. I have made comments about what has been achieved and what should be worked on in the near future. Over-all, the work produced in their exercise books was indicative of hard work and concentrated learning. I am very pleased with the overall work of the whole class.
This term we will once again be concentrating on literacy and numeracy. We will be focusing in reading on vocabulary, comprehension and reading strategies suited to the individual levels for each pupil. In maths we will look at fractions, decimals and percents, which leads onto a final post test of the topic ‘number’ at approximately mid term.
In oral language we have the prepared speech to look forward to. This will be integrated with written language. The students will be taught about the structure and content of the speech. Viewed positively, speech writing can be a lot of fun.
We will be continuing on with the topic “Keeping Ourselves Safe” until about mid term. After that we will begin working on our science boxes. The science box is a major undertaking which I am sure will be a challenge as well as fun to do. There will be more about this later in the term.
Homework last term was mainly tables and the four basic operations. We have seen many children gain mastery but there is still some way to go. For homework this term, I would ask parents and care givers to become involved with your child’s learning. Where there is encouragement, the results follow on. We will be working on the Peter de Ath spelling programme for homework as well. Hopefully, the spelling levels will improve. Once again, if parents and care givers can become involved with testing the lists, progress will be rapid.
Thank you for your support in term one. I look forward to another great term with your children.
They are a great bunch!
