Room 7
Greetings Parents and Caregivers!
The children are all settling into Intermediate School really well, and I am delighted to be able to report to everyone that Room 7 is a very settled class. Right from the first day all the children have been lovely, demonstrating good manners and good classroom behaviour. Despite having 16 boys and only 6 girls they all get on well with each other, and the classroom environment is happy and peaceful.
We will spend the first four weeks of this Term carrying out various tests. It will seem like there are a lot of tests to the children, however they are important because they help us to know exactly what your child needs to learn.
We are beginning the Term talking and learning about the School”s WISH programme – Working In Social Harmony. Ask your child to tell you about it! The children can earn a WISH badge by demonstrating the 5 C’s (Care, Commitment, Co-operation, Courtesy and Common Sense) along with other virtues, and always behaving in an appropriate way, no matter where they are or what they are doing. At the end of every Term, those children who have a WISH badge are able to take part in a special activity, which is a special treat and reward for them. Teachers are only able to give out 5/6 badges each Term, so behaviour and work ethics must be very good all of the time in order to be awarded this badge. If your child loses their badge, they can buy another one for $1.00 from Mrs Ingoe. They must be wearing their badge to be able to take part in the reward activity at the end of Term. If behaviour slips or deteriorates (i.e. gets worse), or class work and homework stops being completed on a regular basis because of laziness or a bad attitude being demonstrated, then the badge will be taken off them, and they will have to work even harder to get it back.
The Topics being studied this term are “Violence Free Begins With Me”, and “Pubertal Change”. There is a meeting for parents concerning our Pubertal Change programme on Tuesday 23rd February at 6pm. This will be followed at 7pm by “Meet the Teacher”. It would be wonderful to see all of you there!
Our Syndicate (Monte Carlo) cross-groups for Maths. This Term we are studying Number. We have already tested the children and cross-grouping will begin on Monday Week 3. Cross-grouping is when the children are split into ability groups, with each group being taught by one of the teachers in Monte Carlo. Some children will stay in their own class, and some will go to another room, to another teacher, just for Maths. One day every week will be kept for maintenance work in maths, and the children will stay in their own room with their own teacher for this lesson.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to ring me at school to make an appointment to come in and see me.
Kind Regards to all,
Christine Earnshaw
(Senior Teacher/Syndicate Leader/Teacher in Charge of ESOL).
