Progress Made Last Year
The progress made by any student at a school is judged by comparing the Level reached by that student at the beginning of the year with the Level achieved by that student at the end of the year. The difference between the two is the progress made by that child over the year.
New Zealand Curriculum Levels
The Levels are those provided by the NZ Curriculum. Level 1 is the lowest level. Each Level is sub-divided into: B (beginning), P (proficient), A (achieved). i.e. Beginning on the Level, gaining Proficiency in the Level (about mid-way through it), Achieving master of the Level.
The Core Areas (Reading, Written Language, and Mathematics)
In Reading, Written Language, and Mathematics, the Level which each child has reached is judged by using asTTle, a test used throughout New Zealand and one which is normed to New Zealand expectations and standards. On-going assessment is also made by the teachers using the exemplars which accompany the New Zealand Curriculum.
Our Results
Our students last year made great progress in Reading, Written Language, and Numeracy as can be seen from the graphs below. The graphs show the Levels reached by the students at the beginning of the year and the Levels reached at the end of the year. As can be seen, there was a good, strong movement to the upper curriculum levels.
There has been extension of those with ability as can be seen by the number in the higher Levels. Those who were in the lower Levels (i.e. those at Level 2 or below) have been raised significantly. This has been due, not only to excellent classroom programmes, but also to the strong support provided by the Reading Programme which works predominantly with those students who in Levels 2 and below.
